This is something I've been asked about several times, so I decided to post quick and free solution on how to convert FLV file into WMV.

There are several ways to make this video formats conversion and I'll show you one simple solution which doesn't require and previous knowledge. Go to and download small freeware program flvtowmv from Lumixsoft. Setup file is 3.76 Mb in size and installation is straightforward.



How to use it? Click on Add button and locate FLV file you wish to convert. Set output folder if you wish. Set video quality somewhere between lowest and highest. Output file size depends on this settings. Set video size. Finally click Convert button. Process is pretty fast. You are done. Quick and easy.

    It says it's free, until you try to use it, and it asks you to "sign up for your free registration code"... which, by "free" they mean $20 US

    No, they have closed the free registration and they are now advertising free product then charging for it. This is only to be expected from cheap two bit companies. If its advertised as free then they should stick to their commitment.. or get the damn webpage updated!!! Strange how long that takes eh?

    Yes, it's free. It's free only for the first time after installation of the program.That's what happen. After that, they want the registration number to start the program and after registered yourself, they ask you to pay to get the registration number!!!

    Free in what terms?

    The other site actually redirects your download (purposefully or b/c it was hijacked I'm not sure). I noticed that it downloaded a file named "freez_flv2avi.exe" even though I clicked to download "flvtowmv.exe". Obviously not the same file. My guess is that is where the problem has been for some of those who have commented previously. (I didn't actually open the "freez_flv2avi.exe" file since I don't know what it really is--so I can't tell you if it even appears to look the same as the real flvtowmv)
    As of 7/2/09, the CNET download link downloads the "flvtowmv.exe" file and it works.

    Use the updated link for the free one - it really is free to use.

    (There is another program of the same name which requires registration - that may be what caused the confusion.)

    Most of the time it works great! There are some .flv files that will make the program abort.

    This worked for me within 3 minutes after downloading and installing from the link provided. It's free, no unsightly watermarks; the quality is surprisingly good and the video is in synch with the audio after conversion.

    Dear Flanture, I downloaded and it converts FLV files to WMV, however when i save it on my pen-drive & play on the DVD player,i get only the sound and there is no picture. why is that & how can i overcome this. Pls. advice.Txs, Ruwan

    After convert around 15 files it ask for the registration.
    Same method as freez flv to wmv converter, but tnx anyway.
